# 🇬🇧 FLOSS-Meetup We are excited to invite you to join a group dedicated to Free/Libre and Open Source Software (FLOSS) and the free software movement. This meetup aims to create a welcoming space for students and faculty members to exchange and develop ideas, connect with each other, collaborate on projects, and enjoy being part of a vibrant community. Whether you are a user of FLOSS, looking for a project to contribute to, want to learn about the movement, or perhaps even start a project yourself, this meetup is for you. No prior experience is required; just bring your curiosity and passion! ## Why FLOSS matters Free/libre and open source software is about more than just code; it's a philosophy that aims to empower individuals by giving them control over the technology they use. The GNU project defines four freedoms \[1\] to achieve this: 1. Run software as you desire 2. Study software and makes changes to your liking 3. Share copies to help others 4. Improve the software and share it for a greater good These freedoms define the fundamental prerequisites for innovation and transparency in technology, which become more important by the day with the increased intrusion of technology in our lives. By embracing these values, we advocate for a future in which software is built to assist us, as opposed to it exploiting us. ## Why you should join us FLOSS cannot exist without strong communities that share knowledge, ideas and support. Wenn Sie Nutzer:in von FLOSS sind, nach Projekten an denen mitgewirkt werden kann suchen, mehr über die freie Software Bewegung lernen wollen, oder sogar selbst ein Projekt starten wollen, dann ist dieses Treffen für Sie. Vorwissen ist nicht nötig; Sie müssen nur Ihre Neugier und Leidenschaft mitbringen! ## Warum ist FLOSS wichtig Free/libre und open source Software bezieht sich auf mehr als nur Code; es ist eine Philosophie, die als Ziel hat, Individuen zu stärken indem ihnen die Kontrolle über die Software die sie benutzen gegeben wir. # 🇬🇧 Linux Install Party After a long break during the lecture-free period, we're kicking off the new semester with a Linux install party! If you're interested in installing Linux, looking for an alternative operating system that gives you freedom, have some Linux-related questions, want to talk Linux or just enjoy pizza, mate and/or beer - we'd love to see you at the event! We'll be meeting in **room 1-130 at the Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences on October 15th, 2025 at 3:00 PM** and we're looking forward to seeing you there! If you want to install a specific distribution, feel free to bring it with you! We've prepared some installation disks, but can't guarantee to have them all 🙂. --- # 🇩🇪 Linux-Installationsparty Nach einer langen Pause während der vorlesungsfreien Zeit starten wir mit einer Linux-Installationsparty ins neue Semester! Wenn Sie Interesse daran haben, Linux zu installieren, nach einem alternativen und freien Betriebssystem suchen, Fragen zum Thema Linux haben, über Linux quatschen wollen oder einfach Pizza, Mate, und/oder Bier mögen - schauen Sie gerne vorbei! Wir treffen uns am **15. Oktober 2025 um 15:00 Uhr im Raum 1-130 der Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences** und freuen uns, Sie dort zu sehen! Sollten Sie eine bestimmte Distribution installieren wollen, bringen Sie diese gerne mit! Wir haben einige Installationsmedien vorbereitet, können allerdings nicht garantieren, alle Distributionen anzubieten 🙂.
